The Nutritional Services Department at the Mercer
County Hospital is a very busy place. Along with making sure that all of our
patients and residents have 3 nutritionally balanced meals a day, we cook meals
for Mobile Meal in Aledo and Viola, the inmates at the Mercer County Jail, the
New Boston Senior Center and we have a cafe with a full salad bar for employees
and family members.
There are 6 full time employees and 6 part-time
employees under the direction of Shelli Edlund, Food Service Director. Shelli
says, "We have 6 full time employees that bring many years of cooking and prep
experience to the department so there isn't much that they can't get for you if
you want it. We try to make your stay here at the Mercer County Hospital seem
like home."
The residents in our ECF unit are so much fun to
get involved with. They like to help bake cookies at Christmas time, shuck corn
and snap beans in the summer, and once a month they get to make the menu for
the day. They really get excited to help with these things.
We also have a catering department that does
parties, luncheons and banquets. Right now we are working hard to make a
delicious meal for the upcoming Mercer Foundation for Health Benefit
Dinner.
The hospital has 2 dieticians on staff to assess
all patients' nutritional needs and do counseling as needed to all residents,
patients and outpatients.
We are all here to help with any nutritional
questions that you have from what to eat on a special diet that your doctor has
suggested, to how much meat you buy to feed 100 people. Give us a call at
309-582-5301, extension 3603 and we will be glad to help you
out! << back
